First, I need to state that you are buying a
COPY
of the dress pattern pieces. This dress was originally made in France out of a medium weight silk type fabric. This dress belonged to my Great Aunt. It was torn and stained. It was so cute that I cut it up and traced all of the pieces onto paper.
This dress has very narrow pleats in the skirt. It must have been professionally pleated. It could also be made with a slightly gathered lower skirt, instead of pleats. *** I think a good dress maker could use a professional pleating machine to put in 1/2" pleats for you at a small cost. I would buy fabric and have it pleated on a pleating machine then I would cut out the curved top part of the lower skirt. The dress has a top section, midsection and lower section for the dress front. *** Look at the artist drawing of the back of the dress in my picture section. The unique thing about the back is the inset that is top stitched into place by turning a narrow edge under. I also encourage you to make a mock dress out of muslin or a cheap top sheet from a thrift shop. I do that so I know the dress will fit before I use expensive fabric. I also write measurements on it since I throw it out when my real dress is complete.
When you buy the COPY you will get the instructions to complete the dress. I am very good at sewing but I am not a trained designer. So, I have written the instructions to the best of my ability. If you can improve them please do so and share your ideas with me.
I believe this dress completed would fit a small lady with these measurements, bust 32, hips 36. If you have the ability you could enlarge the dress as needed.
You will get a new tissue paper copy of each piece.
I have also written out sewing instructions. *** You should have moderate/ advanced ability to sew and follow instructions, altering may be needed to fit your body.**** This is an amazing dress. A one of a kind for sure!
****Please ask any questions you might have before you buy this pattern.
NOTE:
The tricky part is sewing the small sleeve flaps in correctly, attaching to the front and the back of the dress.
