Don’t add security officers to schools, voters say in 3 N.J. districts

Voters in a dozen New Jersey school districts decided a wide range of special ballot questions in last week’s election, including measures that would have added school security officers in several districts.
Voters in three school districts — Woodcliff Lake in Bergen County, Downe in Cumberland County, and Medford in Burlington County — rejected adding additional funding in their 2024-25 school budgets for hiring school security officers, according to an overview of the voting provided by the New Jersey School Boards Association. A similar ballot question on helping to pay for school security officers in North Haledon in Passaic County was approved. Officers have been on the job in the district’s schools since 2022 via a shared service agreement with the municipality.
